Prince2 .... to be or not to be

Prince2
PRINCE2 (PRojects IN Controlled Environments) is a process-based method for effective project management.

PRINCE2 is a de facto standard used extensively by the UK Government and is widely recognised and used in the private sector, both in the UK and internationally.

The method PRINCE2 is in the public domain, offering non-proprietorial best practice guidance on project management. PRINCE2 is a registered trademark of OGC.

There are two PRINCE2 qualification levels: PRINCE2 Foundation and PRINCE2 Practitioner.

PRINCE2 Foundation level is for those with a requirement to learn the basics and terminology of PRINCE2. (the exam is a one-hour, closed-book, MCQ exam completely based on Prince2 theory...)..It is imperative to clear this exam to give the Practioner's exam.

PRINCE2 Practitioner is the highest level qualification and is suitable for those with the need to manage projects within a PRINCE2 environment.(the exam is a three-hours, open-book exam based on 9 case studies).... the answer sheets are sent to UK for checking....

In delhi, Prince 2 can be done through QAI India Limited.... registration can be done through their site..... the schedule is limited since the trainer is flown from UK for stipulated period of time only.... In India, Prince2 is relatively unknown compared to PMP.... but its prevelant in UK and Europe...

My advise is that - go for Prince2 if you have European clients/projects. Prince2 is a great qualification in such scenarios.

Prince 2 & PMP

PRINCE2 specific strengths.
There is no equivalent PMBOK pre-project process to PRINCE2’s ‘Starting up a Project’ (SU), so there is no discussion of what or who should be in place at the beginning of a project, nor of how to go about getting it if it is lacking.

PRINCE2 offers a complete change control approach, whereas PMBOK just talks of the need for it.

PMBOK says little about configuration management, and certainly offers no link between it, the Configuration Librarian role and change control.

The PMBOK only talks about a Project Plan, whereas PRINCE2 offers Stage and Team Plans and discusses the advantages of breaking the Project Plan down, e.g. for easier planning and better control.

PRINCE2 offers standard roles for its project management team.

The PMBOK only covers the creation of a WBS, and does not compare to the PRINCE2 Product-based Planning technique in terms of the latter’s Product Descriptions and Product Flow Diagram. Nor is there any real detail in the PMBOK Planning process to take a plan through to a network plan and a Gantt or bar chart.

The Product Description is far more positive about what information should be provided to the producer of a product. The PMBOK offers only vague advice.

PMBOK specific strengths.

The PMBOK covers procurement.

The PMBOK covers the actual procurement, pre-assignment or negotiation for team members for a project in some detail.

The PMBOK identifies needs to be covered in human resource management, and soft skills in general.

Memento & Gajjini : My take on it

i watched memento yesterday... the movie which supposedly inspired gajjini.... the similarities end at the medical condition of the lead protagnist, the murder of the lead-femal actor, the city map on the wall and the tattoos....

Memento is without any doubt one of the most captivating films of last year. A film that gnaws at you, amuses you, seduces you, and will give you one wish: to watch it and take another hard look

On the other hand, Gajjini is a typical masala hindi movie with liberal doses of action, violence and gore.... there were several lopeholes in the story that make u wonder....only aamir saves that movie from being a complete failure..... the lost look in his eyes when he forgets why he is running after the policeman or why he is hitting the bad guys in the end or the rage he feels when he looks at his tattoos in the mirror make u sympathise with him....... u feel the rage of the man who saw his lady-love murdered in front of him....

and so if u ask me what differentiates the two movies......i would say......

memento was a mind game.... u miss a scene and u fall back on what's happening.... with enough twists and turns, the end of the movie left me asking for more....

n

gajjini was pure violence..... i felt so sad for the characters of aamir and asin & so appalled by the gore in the movie (why couldnt they just pick a gun n shoot, the hammer made me nauseatic) that i could not wait for the movie to end, to run out and to get away...it depressed me totally....

Gift for him

After 5 years of knowing each other, I was getting bored of giving each other watches, mobiles, clothes, boots, jewelry….. you get my drift and therefore I put my thinking cap on (and surfed net ) to find innovative ways of surprising him…. Something that had a personal touch and was intimate for both of us….

For our first wedding anniversary…. I planned an album (not online, but a leather bound where u can flip pages), which was to have everything that we did together for the “first” time… like - first day after marriage, first time we went scuba diving, first birthdays, first holi, first karwachauth, first camping trip etc…..

I got pics printed… a few enlarged…. The size of the album was 10”x12”….. It was a beautiful blue leather bound album where you can pull the plastic sheet and put each picture in any orientation……. I bought a lot of beautiful colored paper….. and I made the album like a collage…… I cut hearts and flowers and confetti….. I wrote messages and dates and special things……… the album also had tickets & bills of special nights....In between the album I pasted few pictures, which I had made thanks to the online collage maker…. I got these collages printed as well…… The first page of the album was a picture which was like a collage of several pics……. And the last one was a picture which was a dream sequence of everything we had to do in the future…….

I used to make the album when he used to go to the gym…. even had few of his friends take him out for beer right after gym one night…….. I went crazy trying to keep it a surprise for him….. it took me about a week to complete it…… but the result was something very personal….. & he could see the pains I had taken…….. that night on the anniversary dinner, he showed the album to everyone and let them oooooo and aaaahhhhhhhh over it ……..:)………… and then he swooped out his surprise…. a beautiful solitaire diamond ring……. Oh well!!!! One priceless gift for another….. ;)….. that album is the pride of our living room now…... and the ring of my hand...:)
